Benefits of Crate Training!
Crate training can sometimes feel as though you’re doing the wrong thing, not allowing your dog freedom while you’re gone…but we’re here to tell you the oppsite!
1. New Puppy/Dog: The crate is a great tool to set boundaries and give your dog a safe space when getting acclimated to a new home.
2. Potty Training: varying your dog’s age, the crate is a great way to help teach how to hold their bladder. Dogs are less likely to have accidents in their sleeping area. (Puppies, of course, need to be let out more frequently.)
3. Safety: When dogs can’t be supervised properly, the crate can protect them from multiple things. For example: ingesting small items that are choking hazards, or larger items that can cause blockages that can only be cleared by surgery. They can get into foods or chemicals that can cause damage to their organs and in some cases, become fatal.
4. For Security: Dogs can be exposed to many stressful situations. Whether they are at home or not, the crate can provide a safe space for your dog when new people visit your home, like cleaners, handymen, etc.
5. Travel: Many airlines require dogs to travel in the undercarriage cargo of the plane. Airbnbs most require dogs to be in a crate (especially if you’d like to go out without them). Staying in an unfamiliar place can cause anxiety, but solid crate training can help create saftey and comfort for your dog.
6. For Emergencies: If your dog has to stay overnight at the vet they are crated. To help your dog in a place with lots of stressful stimulus, dogs tend to be scared, having solid crate training can add comfort and security in these situations.
We highly recommend Ruffland performance kennels, and Gunner kennels as they are crash tested and very durable. We do not recommend soft or wire crates. Unsupervised dogs can chew up the plastic trays or injure themselves on the metal bars.
